Suncoast Casino Scene of Violent Robbery

suncoast-casino-robbery Suncoast Casino in Durban was the scene of a rare daylight robbery crime on Wednesday, after a man was shot and had R150,000 stolen from him.

According to reporters, the unnamed victim entered Standard Bank in Kingsmead and withdrew the cash, before making his way to the Suncoast Casino. The group of robbers followed the victim to the casino’s parking lot and accosted him, demanding that he hand over the money. The group tried to stab the man but when he refused to part with the R150,000, one of the robbers drew a gun and shot him in the arm and the leg. Some of the money was taken from the victim, while an undisclosed amount was left in his car.

Police spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane reported on the incident: “It is alleged that the victim came from the bank and went to Suncoast Casino Hotel parking where he was accosted by three suspects,” he said. “They allegedly shot him and he was injured and taken to hospital for treatment. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash before they fled the scene.”

The police said that no arrests have been made yet.

A spokesman for Crisis Medical confirmed that the man had sustained two gunshot wounds. At present, he is in stable condition at St. Augustine’s Hospital where he is receiving medical treatment.

Nicole East, speaking for Suncoast Casino also confirmed the incident and stressed that the police and emergency services were called to the scene immediately.
