Sun International Cuts the Ribbon on New Time Square Casino

Sun International held a dramatic opening ceremony for its latest casino – the long-awaited Time Square Casino in Menlyn, Pretoria. The light and pyrotechnics display, using quiet fireworks in line with Sun International’s commitment to the environment and community responsibility, gave a taste of things to come, as visitors packed the new casino the following day.

Tshwane residents are now able to enjoy some of the best land-based casino entertainment in Africa with the opening of the new Time Square Casino. The opening marked the first phase of a three-phase plan to bring South Africans one of Sun International’s most ambitious gambling and accommodation projects to date.

The casino’s opening went hand in hand with the introduction of 18 new restaurants to the complex. Later this year, probably around November, Sun International will open the doors to a new state of the art Arena which will hold over 8,500 people. The third and final stage of the project will be the opening of the Maslow Time Square hotel around March next year.

Time Square Casino is slated to be one of the country’s most technologically advanced casino floors, as well as the country’s second largest casino overall. The casino currently boasts 2,000 slot machines and 60 gaming tables, all spread comfortably over two levels and occupying over 7,500 square meters of floor space. At a cost of R4 billion to build, it is no wonder that this is considered one of the most beautiful gambling complexes in the world.

Sun International is particularly proud of its new Time Square Casino, with its futuristic design, 1,000 digital screens and true opulence overall. The casino caters to all visitors and has smoking and non-smoking sections. The Sun Lounge offers gambling opportunities for higher-end players, including a VIP gaming room, a private baccarat pit for highrollers, four separate private gaming rooms and top of range gaming experiences, tailor-made to suit every player.

The slots manager at Time Square, Biano Marini said that the new casino was “the epitome of world class, from the variety of games, pioneering floor layout and advanced customer interaction technologies.”

The casino has created thousands of jobs, first in its construction stage and now for permanent staff.

“We aimed to embed ourselves in the community,”noted Sun International spokesman, Michael Farr. “We will never be able to be successful if it wasn’t for the support of the community.”
