Garden Route Casino Beauties for Charity
This year, the Garden Route Casino will be hosting a talented bevvy of beauties whose purpose goes beyond just stunning good looks. On 25 September, the Miss Garden Route and Klein Karoo beauty show will host local beauties from the area who will be competing for a prestigious title at what promises to be a spectacular event. But this event will not just be about the beauty, poise and grace of the contestants. Instead, the competition hopes to highlight the plight of women and child victims of abuse and all of the proceeds that the event raises will be donated to four shelters that cater to the needs of abused women and their children living in the area.
The shelters, including the Creating Effective Families shelter located in Mossel Bay, Malibongwe which is in Oudtshoorn, George’s Phambili and the Kukhanyiso shelter in Knysna, will all be receiving the monies collected from this charity show to further their causes and aid those children and women who have been negatively affected by abuse. To add to the show’s charitable endeavours, the finalists will be visiting some of these shelters to promote another aspect of the competition. The women currently being housed in these shelters will have the chance to win a makeover while the charity show is being run, with the ultimate purpose of making them feel pampered and refreshed.
The charity show is not just an excellent way of promoting beauty with a cause, but it also gets local businesses involved around the area, both in terms of sponsorships and in terms of donations. Some of the businesses that will be involved in this year’s endeavours include MosselBay’s Volkswagen dealership, Coca-Cola, the Garden Court Sun Square, Lalakoi Publishers and many more, not to mention the Garden Route Casino, which is hosting the entire competition.
The winner of the charity show will be heftily rewarded with prizes including a modelling contract, a photographic contract and a large cash prize, while all 12 of the finalists will be receiving a weekend getaway as well as automatic entries into the Miss Earth pageant. Last year’s winner, Mia Le Roux, will make an appearance to crown the 2015 winner and while entries have been open for some time now, it is not too late to enter now.
Entry forms can be obtained at the Mossel Bay, George, Knysna and Oudtshoorn local tourism offices or by emailing or calling Tryana Potgieter on 044 606 7777 or [email protected] The competition will only accept unmarried women of between 18 and 25 years of age, with no dependents but for those who want to make a difference to their communities, this is an ideal place to start. Those in the area at the time of the event will be able to watch as the Garden Route Casino and other sponsors take on the plight of woman and children who have been abused, in an effort to help them better their lives.
