Gaming Africa Conference Deemed a Success
The subject of gambling in Africa has become a focal point in many discussions. As the BiG Africa SuperShow is currently taking place at Emperors Palace Casino (November 7th and 8th), organizers of another summit are already marking their event as a huge success.
The Gaming Africa event, which was held on October 24th and 25th, also in Johannesburg, was considered “a rousing success and a true meeting place for the industry”, according to the website.
The inaugural Gaming Africa gathered 52 regulators from across 16 African countries and from other countries around the world. Countries who sent representatives included South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana, Botswana, Lesotho, Kenya, Mozambique and Namibia. Also in attendance were representatives from countries such as the UK, Belgium, Finland, France, Bulgaria, Israel, Germany, the United States, Malta, Hong Kong and the UAE. The high-profile gambling conference offered participants multiple networking opportunities.
ICE Event Triggered Gaming Africa Conference Idea
The idea for to host a Gaming Africa Conference was first discussed at the international ICE event in London this February, and Clarion Gaming was tasked with hosting the event. Regulators and stakeholders want to create a sustainable online gambling industry, and felt that this type of networking would help the developing industry on the continent.
A keynote speech was given by the commissioner for the Gaming Commission of Ghana, Peter Mireku.
Ahead of the summit, Mireku said that there was no doubt that the conference would be “good for Africa”. He said that it would help alter some of the negative perceptions that exist in the African gambling industry, and would also provide a professional showcase for gaming throughout Africa.
“Many thought leaders believe that gaming suffers from a negative narrative and events such as this provide a platform to demonstrate not only the technology that this industry deploys, but it also shines a light on the importance attached to social responsibility and the harm minimization initiatives that are at the heart of a progressive and sustainable industry,” he said.
