Chris De Burgh Ready to Tour SA

Chris-De-Burgh-SA-tour There are few children of the 80s who won’t remember Chris De Burgh’s iconic Lady in Red which featured in more matric dances of the period than any other slow dancing song. Now, fans of the musician, whose work has spanned three decades, can see him live at the Grand West Casino, Montecasino and other venues around South Africa in early 2016.

De Burgh recently released his new album titled, The Hands of the Man which he will be promoting with the tour in SA in 2016. Though it became a huge hit in SA Lady in Red was actually not the artist’s first SA release. That credit must be given to Just Another Poor Boy from the album Spanish Train and Other Stories which was released in the very early 1980s. His follow up single, Man on the Line, which was released to SA audiences in 1981 made just as much of a mark as his first single and by the time he brought out his Into the Light album in 1986, he was already a household name. The album was so successful that sales surpassed 10 million globally, which even by today’s standards is impressive. As for Lady in Red, the song hit the charts at number one in over 50 different countries and became one of the most iconic songs of the decade. It is still played on many radio stations today, even though it is now classified a “Golden Oldie”.

De Burgh’s new album is his 20th album and comprises new, original material. It was recorded both in his home studio in the country of Ireland, and in a British facility owned by well-known Depeche Mode frontman, Mark Knopfler. The concert is set to be a heart-warming and heart-wrenching one in which audiences will be taken back to their teenage days and have the opportunity to see a man in person, who shaped many of their younger lives.

The dates that have been set for the concerts include the 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th of April 2016 at the Teatro theatre in Montecasino, the 12th of April at the ICC Durban Arena, the 14th and 15th of April at the Boardwalk Arena in Port Elizabeth, as well as the 17th of April at the Grand West Casino in Cape Town. Ticket prices for all shows range from R285 to R680 and tickets are already available for sale from Computicket and from Big Concerts.

There is little doubt that these tickets will sell out fast and if audiences should do their utmost not to miss out on Chris De Burgh’s new songs. With a little luck, he may even perform Lady in Red or any of his other iconic songs from the 1980s.
